Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council (NNTC)

The Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council (NNTC) is dedicated to the protection, advancement and exercise of Nlaka’pamux title and rights. To carry out this mandate, part of our strategy has been to create legal entities including A.E.W. LP.

AEW LP was formed in 2017 by NNTC member communities to carry out “on the ground” work related to archaeology, the environment and wildlife protection. This work has been made necessary by activities of others within the Nlaka’pamux homeland including transportation, mining, forestry, oil and gas, and utilities projects. The NNTC is not opposed to development within our homeland but developments and activities must be consistent with Nlaka’pamux title and rights. AEW LP is guided by the fundamental Nlaka’pamux law: Take care of the land and the land will take care of you.

AEW LP is a vehicle created to ensure work of the highest standard, controlled by the Nlaka’pamux, is done to protect and promote Nlaka’pamux title and rights:

  • Our archaeological services include: Heritage Reconnaissance, Archaeological Assessments and Monitoring, Heritage Site Evaluation and Mitigation, Artifact and Faunal Analysis, and GIS Mapping.

  • Our environmental services include: Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Surveying and Management Plans, Implementation of Mitigation and Reclamation Measures and Environmental Auditing and Monitoring Services.

For the upcoming 2020 field season, the AEW Environmental Services team is seeking an experienced Heritage Project Manager for a full-time position.

As heritage project manager, you will be responsible for an established and large-scale heritage assessment field program, primarily associated with heritage stewardship and archaeological assessments involving the mining, forestry, hydro-electric and transportation sectors. You will supervise a skilled and experienced team of professional archaeologists and heritage field technicians, coordinate the activities of contracted archaeologists and other professionals, and manage up to six heritage field crews. Your primary duties will include planning, managing, and directing heritage reconnaissance surveys, archaeological assessments, evaluative excavations, and monitoring activities, and coordinating and overseeing reporting activities for these projects. Candidates must be willing to work collaboratively with and accept direction from community members.

Specific duties and responsibilities will include:

- Referral review
- Liaising with community members and NNTC personnel
- Permit applications and Archaeology Branch liaison
- Time and cost estimates
- Project scheduling
- Crew scheduling
- Fieldwork QC review
- Project reporting
- Fieldwork and project tracking
- Field data management
- Directing GIS mapping
- Field note and field mapping QC review
- Site form and site map review and revisions
- Preparation of management recommendations
- Directing mitigation and management activities

Key qualifications

- A BA and/or BSc with an archaeology focus (a Masters degree is desirable),
- Qualified to hold a provincial heritage permit in the BC interior
- Demonstrated experience in permit reporting
- Five years experience in B.C. heritage resource management (or equivalent)
- Knowledge and experience in adhering to occupational health & safety practices
- A valid Class 5 driver’s licence, and a current First Aid Ticket (Level 1 minimum).
- Experience with GPS (including Trimble units) and GIS systems
- BCAPA membership and RPCA designation is desirable
- Qualified instructor for RISC Archaeological training courses is desirable.

As Nlaka’pamux jurisdiction is re-asserted and our laws and policy govern work within our homeland, AEW LP is there to implement the change. AEW LP is staffed by both Nlaka’pamux and non-Nlaka’pamux. If you are passionate about archaeology/heritage, the environment and wildlife and want the opportunity to make meaningful change not just profit for shareholders, we would like to meet with you.

If you possess the necessary qualifications and skills, please forward your cover letter and resume to: jobs@praxisgroup.ca.
Please quote AEW LP Project Manager Job Application in the subject line.

This posting will remain open until the position has been filled.

We thank all applicants in advance. Please self-identify as preference will be given to Nlaka’pamux
