Since 2002, the First Nations Technology Council (FNTC) has partnered with over 150 Indigenous communities across the province to provide advice, insights, and technology-related training. They unveiled a strategic renewal in 2013, reimagining the role of the Technology Council in a rapidly changing digital landscape. They recognized that these are the most exciting and important years in the advancement of technology and innovation in Indigenous communities as BC and Canada work to become global leaders in the digital economy.

With new resources and a powerful network, they positioned the Technology Council to support thousands of Indigenous peoples over the coming years through their comprehensive education programs. Moving forward, their vision is one of a thriving Indigenous Innovation Ecosystem, in which Indigenous peoples are empowered with the necessary skills and certifications to thrive in our digital age, Indigenous communities can fully utilize technology to advance their visions and the technology sector is actively being shaped by Indigenous voices and perspectives as it responds meaningfully to reconciliation. What Will the Manager of People and Culture Undertake?

As the Manager of People and Culture you report directly to the Director of Operations and are responsible for the organization's overall effective human resource strategic planning and operations aligned with the vision and mandate of the FNTC.  In support of the CEO's strategic direction, you provide the human resources leadership to support the vision and strengthen the entire people capacity of the organization. You must also be able to work in a fast-paced, nuanced, complex, and rapidly developing environment, holding and promoting the organizations' talent management and human resource interests in advancing digital technologies for Indigenous peoples' in British Columbia. 

You are responsible for the organizational development of this fast-growing, innovative, Indigenous organization and as such, bring a variety of tools, methods, and modalities to the achievement of the work. You plan direct, develop, and coordinate the policies and activities of the human resources function, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of FNTC's mission and talent goals. You provide the smooth running of the organization aligned with best practices in organizational development and talent management, including employee engagement, performance management, and HR policy development and implementation.  You also plan and coordinate learning workshops, team gatherings and retreats. In all, you establish a better culture and employee experience in a remote environment.

 

What Skills, Competencies and Experience Does the Manager of People and Culture Possess?

This is a busy, challenging, and engaging opportunity for an experienced HR professional who is committed to supporting an engaged employee group. As the ideal candidate, you are a highly professional individual who has excellent written and verbal communication skills with a penchant for relationship building and the ability to exercise critical thinking, negotiation, and prioritizing skills. You have a strong set of technical skills including familiarity and comfort with First Nations governance structures, communities, and organizations and communicating in a culturally safe and respectful manner. You have exceptional human resource and talent management skills and a thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations. 

You possess a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field with three (3) years' recent, related experience in Human Resources, preferably in a First Nation environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Having your CPHR designation is an asset. FNTC is an Indigenous organization whose mandate is to promote opportunities for Indigenous people. Location

The First Nations Technology Council is located in North Vancouver. This position can be located anywhere in BC as working from home, full-time and permanently, is an option.
