Established in the early 1980's, the Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council (NNTC) was given the responsibility to protect and advance the title and rights of the Nlaka'pamux Nation. Title and rights are our way of life, our ties to the land and our responsibility to protect for future generations. 

Our team is seeking a Manager of Human Resources, for a full-time position based in Kamloops or Lytton with travel throughout the Nlaka’pamux homeland, as required.

The main purpose of this role is to:

  • Provides hands on Human Resources (HR) leadership and management of all Human Resources services, policies, and programs

  • Creates an employee-oriented, high performance work culture

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

 
  • Provide support and guidance to the management teams to ensure the development, implementation, operational effectiveness and administration of HR programs and policies

  • Responsible for active and consistent deployment of Best Practices in HR

  • Develop and execute HR plans and programs according to legal guidelines and monitor for compliance to the law

  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of productivity, positivity, health and safety as well as support, communicate and reinforce the mission, values and culture of the organization

  • Provide overall leadership in the following areas:

    • Employee Relations

    • Recruitment and Selection

    • Onboarding

    • Performance Management

    • Terminations/Discipline Actions/Off boarding

    • Compensation and Benefits

    • Succession Planning

    • HR Policy Development and Implementation

    • Employee Engagement

This rewarding opportunity will appeal to professionals with experience in human resources, especially within an Indigenous environment. This individual should also have:

  • Proven experience as an HR Manager for five or more years

  • Deep understanding of legal employment guidelines

  • Deep understanding of best practices in HR

  • College degree or certificate in Human Resource Management or a related topic would be a benefit but not essential

  • Chartered Professional Human Resources (CPHR) or equivalent experience or ability to achieve CPHR designation

  • Safety Certification e.g. CSO, CSS, NCSO, GSC, WHMIS, CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification are beneficial

  • Solid Business acumen combined with the ability to apply practical and effective HR solutions

  • Solid knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations

  • Ability to effectively respond to and interact with all level in the organization

  • Critical personal characteristics and skills include excellent judgment, maturity, compassion, passion and integrity

  • Exceptional presentation/facilitation, organizational, analytical, interpersonal and written/oral communications skills

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and have excellent organizational, time management and stress management skills to complete required tasks, often within tight deadlines

  • Effective interpersonal skills including advocacy, coaching, negotiating and influencing skills as well as outstanding conflict management and observation ability

  • Ability to develop and maintain trusting relationships both internally and externally

  • Understanding of the culture and political environment
