Archivist, Research Unit ~ Closed
We are seeking a reliable and highly motivated person to work with the Research Unit as the Archivist for our collections. As a member of the Research Unit, the Archivist has a critical role in supporting Nlaka’pamux leadership, communities and specific claims research.
Established in the early 1980's, the Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council (NNTC) was given the responsibility to protect and advance the title and rights of the Nlaka'pamux Nation. Title and rights are our way of life, our ties to the land and our responsibility to protect for future generations.
The NNTC Specific Claims program has served Nlaka’pamux communities since 1985, and the program has submitted over 100 claims for resolution.
Reporting to the Legal and Research Director, the Archivist will be responsible for:
Maintaining, preserving and expanding NNTC Cultural, Government and Resource Library collections
Regularly updating library and archive indices
Digitizing materials in various formats for preservation purposes (e.g. photographs, maps, tapes, documents)
Responding to requests for information from NNTC or Nlaka’pamux community members
Transcribing recorded and handwritten materials
Maintaining collections consistent with NNTC records management systems and protocols
Entering archival data into our databases
Recording/photographing meetings or events as needed
Assisting with Nlaka’pamux Land-Use interviews
Adhering to privacy and confidentiality policies with respect to archival materials
Committing to respecting Nlaka’pamux title and rights
Performing other related duties as required
This rewarding opportunity will appeal to individuals with an interest in the history of Indigenous title and rights in the interior of BC and in the history of the governmental, legal, and other relationships between Indigenous Peoples and the federal and provincial governments. You should also have strong communication, computer and writing skills, an ability to be organized and detailed and an exemplary level of integrity, work ethic, confidentiality, and accountability. A valid BC driver’s licence is required. A diploma or degree in Archival Studies, Library and Information Science, Records and Information Management or another related program, would be considered an asset.
