The City of Powell River is seeking an energetic leader to oversee and manage the Finance Department which includes both finance and IT. As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) you will be responsible for discharging the responsibilities assigned to the Financial Officer under the BC Community Charter. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the CFO is responsible for all general financial administration, oversees the efficient organization and operation of the Finance Department, and mitigates risk. This role is responsible for matters relating to information technology by maintaining and enhancing the City’s IT function through planning, implementing and sound policies. As part of the senior leadership team, you promote strategic thought and action throughout the organization to implement the vision and service priorities of Council. This diverse role requires an excellent communicator and a diplomatic leader with a sound financial background.

You bring high quality professional standards and practices with your experience in finance, as well as supervisory experience to this role on the Management Team of the City. As an innovative leader and strong communicator, you ensure the provision of quality financial programs and policies and ensure financial objectives are met. This role provides short and long-range planning for the department and participates in the overall strategic direction for the City. You are a strong leader with the ability to motivate and manage your diverse team including recruitment, evaluation, performance, and attendance management. You are able to effectively manage the department’s budget, administration, and records. Sound financial acumen and conceptual planning skills are essential.
You have completed a professional accounting designation and have obtained a degree in business or finance. You have a minimum of five years working management experience combined with ten years of progressive accounting and finance experience. Some previous public or local government experience, preferably in a municipal environment is required. Familiarity with computerized financial systems is preferred. Well-developed organizational, time management, computer, and interpersonal skills are also required. The City is looking for a CFO with well-developed participative leadership skills and a team player capable of working effectively in a council and community driven environment.
