On behalf of our client, the shíshálh Nation, we are seeking a Finance Manager to oversee the day to day operations of the Nation’s Finance Department, at their Sechelt, BC office.

 Reporting to the CFO, the main purpose of this role is to:

  • Supervise, coordinate, and direct the activities and work of other Finance staff.

  • Perform complex accounting, fiscal and administrative work

  • Achieve the goals and objectives of the Finance Department, to research and interpret legislation and agreements, to work in an independent manner and to exercise good judgment in selecting and interpreting information

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the overall direction of the Finance Department in performing managerial tasks and highly technical accounting and financial work

  • Oversee and manage accounting and reporting functions

  • Ensure the integrity and reliability of the financial reporting system and the related general ledger account structure

  • With the assistance of other Finance staff prepare the annual consolidated financial statements and all associated working papers and documentation, to standards required by the external auditors

  • Coordinate with the external auditors in respect to the interim and final audits

  • Supervise the continuous improvement of accounting and financial processes and the development of the team with the goal to achieve best practices and optimal output

  • Provide a high level of service to requests for information, advice, and direction from external and internal clients

  • Assist with the preparation of the annual long-term financial plan including the associated operating and capital budgets

  • Prepare financial reports and statistics for outside agencies, regulatory bodies, and other levels of government

 

This rewarding opportunity will appeal to professionals with possession of a professional accounting designation (CPA) and at least 5 years of financial, business, and managerial experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working within a First Nations environment is considered an asset.

Expert knowledge of accounting principles, budgets, internal controls, business planning and asset management are required.
