Our client, Home Sharing Support Society BC, is seeking their first Executive Director.

Who is the Home Sharing Support Society BC?

Home Sharing Support Society BC is a new organization created to support the sustainability of the Home Share model. The guiding principles of the organization are sustainability, cultural responsiveness, and collaboration as well as relying on an evidence-based approach. Built on a foundation of trust, respect, and humility, the new society’s aim is to ensure the supported individual living in a Home Sharing environment thrives. The organization will initially focus on the following key areas: Public Awareness, Recruitment and Communication; Respite Services; Networking and Support and Training & Education.

What will the Executive Director Undertake?

Your focus as Executive Director (ED) is to build a new and effective organization and implement the Board’s key priority areas. Home Sharing Support Society BC is seeking a values driven and passionate leader to support the creation of the new society. Operating in a collaborative relationship with the Board, the ED will listen and communicate with a variety of stakeholders about the Society’s new role as well as build relationships with those stakeholders. Stakeholders include supported individuals, home share providers, family members, friends, community members, CLBC, and the coordinating support agencies. 

As the ED you will partner with the Board of Directors in developing the organization's strategic plan, develop the annual operational plan and budget, and lead the daily management of the Society. The ED is responsible for the prudent financial management of the society, and compliance with all fiduciary and legal requirements for a nonprofit Society in BC.

The ED ensures that the Society meets the needs of the Home Sharing community and creates a working environment that fosters the values and philosophy of the Society. The ED is responsible for providing leadership, in partnership with the board, during this exciting growth period. The successful candidate will take a leadership role in all aspects of the Society and will bring demonstrated enthusiasm and initiative.

What Skills, Competencies and Experience Does the Executive Director Possess?

As the ideal candidate, you have an entrepreneurial spirit and bring strong communication skills. You have a proven track record of working with a Board of Directors, financial management, and experience in strategic planning including developing operational plans and policies. You have a strong commitment in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with all key community stakeholders.

You will have a degree in a relevant program area (including, but not limited to, community services, healthcare and/or non-profit leadership) with over five years of progressive leadership experience in a non-profit organization. Strong understanding of Human Resources practices and financials, information technology, and key legislation as well as best practices governing the delivery of support service to the Home Sharing community.

What is Home Sharing?

Home Sharing is a residential option for adults with developmental disabilities. Individuals share a home with qualified, and screened caregivers who provide ongoing support to the individual. Home Sharing is the most accessed housing option offered by Community Living British Columbia (CLBC), which is the provincial crown corporation that funds, supports and provides services to adults with developmental disabilities. An individual may live with just one other person, with a family, or semi-independently in a separate suite.
