Lead Field Biologist

We are seeking a Lead Field Biologist to join the fantastic team at AEW LP, based out of Hope, BC.

The Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council (NNTC) is dedicated to the protection, advancement and exercise of Nlaka’pamux title and rights. To carry out this mandate, part of our strategy has been to create legal entities including A.E.W. Limited Partnership (AEW LP).

AEW LP was formed in 2017 by NNTC member communities to carry out “on the ground” work related to archaeology, the environment and wildlife protection. This work has been made necessary by activities of others within the Nlaka’pamux homeland including transportation, mining, forestry, oil and gas, and utilities projects. The NNTC is not opposed to development within our homeland but developments and activities must be consistent with Nlaka’pamux title and rights. AEW LP is guided by the fundamental Nlaka’pamux law: Take care of the land and the land will take care of you.

AEW LP is a vehicle created to ensure work of the highest standard, controlled by the Nlaka’pamux, is done to protect and promote Nlaka’pamux title and rights:

·       Our archaeological services include: Heritage Reconnaissance, Archaeological Assessments and Monitoring, Heritage Site Evaluation and Mitigation, Artifact and Faunal Analysis, and GIS Mapping.

·       Our environmental services include: Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Surveying and Management Plans, Implementation of Mitigation and Reclamation Measures and Environmental Auditing and Monitoring Services.

The Environmental Services team is seeking a Lead Field Biologist for a full-time, seasonal position based out of Hope, BC with the potential for a full-time permanent role. Primary duties and responsibilities will include:

 ·       Leading the implementation of a resource specialist program including the management and organization of multiple field crews.

·       Implementing programs for population monitoring, habitat design and effectiveness monitoring.

·       Providing oversight on provincial and federal regulatory requirements.

·       Leading wildlife salvage programs.

·       Leading pre-clearing wildlife sweeps.

·       Daily reporting a client liason.

·       Completing wildlife surveys (i.e., bats, amphibians, ungulates, breeding birds, raptors).

·       Commitment to the protection and advancement of Nlaka’pamux title and rights.

·       Working in partnership with members of the Nlaka’pamux to ensure consistency of approaches and methodologies.

This challenging and rewarding opportunity will appeal to professionals with the following qualifications:

 ·       B.Sc. in biology or related field.

·       Registered Professional Biologist designation in BC with the BC College of Applied Biology is preferred.

·       Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in wildlife biology/resource management.

·       Experience with designing and implementing scientific studies/field programs and managing field teams and the collection of wildlife data.

·       Experience operating in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork.

·       Experience completing surveys for breeding birds, small mammals, raptors and amphibians.

·       Experience with completing wildlife salvage activities.

·       Experience completing pre-clearing wildlife sweeps (breeding birds, small mammals, bear dens).

·       Ability/interest to work in the field, in remote locations for extended periods of time.

·       Possess a current and valid Canadian Driver’s License.

·       Experience with operation of off-road vehicles.

·       Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

Other key qualities you will possess include self-motivation, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.

As Nlaka’pamux jurisdiction is re-asserted and our laws and policy govern work within our homeland, AEW LP is there to implement the change. AEW LP is staffed by both Nlaka’pamux and non-Nlaka’pamux. If you are passionate about archaeology/heritage, the environment and wildlife and want the opportunity to make meaningful change not just profit for shareholders, we would like to meet with you.

If you possess the necessary qualifications and skills, please forward your cover letter and resume to: hello@praxisrecruitment.ca. This posting will remain open until the position has been filled.

We thank all applicants in advance. Please self-identify as preference will be given to Nlaka’pamux.Established in the early 1980's, the Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council (NNTC) was given the responsibility to protect and advance the title and rights of the Nlaka'pamux Nation. Title and rights are our way of life, our ties to the land and our responsibility to protect for future generations.
