Stk'emlupsemc Te Secwepemc Nation (SSN) consists of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc and Skeetchestn Indian Band, one of the seven historic “Divisions” of Secwepemc Nation. The Stk’emlúpsemc te Secwepemc Nation are responsible for Aboriginal Title and Rights on their Territory. Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc Band is a progressive Band on the leading edge of self-sufficiency for their approximate 1000 members (living both on and off the reserve). They pioneered Indian Property taxation and have created over 200 direct jobs and over $200 million of regional economic activity. The Band, which operates over 10 corporations, added 20,000 acres of fee simple land, and crown leases for resource development, partnerships with investors, entrepreneurs and other investment/economic opportunities. The SSN is the governing organization which deals with matters and projects within the SSN territory.

The Cultural Heritage Report Author

Reporting to the Cultural Heritage Coordinator, the Report Author is an experienced role within SSN. The primary focus of the position is to provide specialized expertise to the SSN’s Cultural Heritage Coordinator, Project Assessment Lead, and the Cultural Heritage Oversight Committee as well as provide mentorship of junior staff within the Cultural Heritage Department. The role will work collaboratively with the Cultural Heritage Coordinator and team to research and produce strong, comprehensive reports that are aligned with SSN’s values and objectives.

What Skills, Competencies and Experience Does the Cultural Heritage Report Author have? 

You have strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills coupled with advanced analytical, research and engagement skills. You are results oriented and pursue excellence while achieving results that exceed requirements. You are intrinsically motivated and improve performance or operational activities by trying new things and looking at opportunities to bring a new approach to the status quo. 

Preferably you have a Master’s Degree in Indigenous Studies or Law, Anthropology, Political Science, Geography, English, Forestry, Environmental Studies, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A class 5 Driver’s Licence is required. Extensive experience in archival research as well as interview ethics, memory mapping, research design and methodology is also required.
