The Victoria Community Resources Society (VCRS) provides service to nine individuals within two residential sites that are co-located called Twin Oaks. The atmosphere at Twin Oaks is driven by the residents, and their team works to enhance the culture of the homes by being flexible, thoughtful and by leading with their hearts. What Will the Executive Director Undertake?

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the success of VCRS’s staff, programs, and service delivery. The ED develops and executes the Operational Plan as well as the Quality of Life framework, in accordance with VCRS’s mission, vision and values. As the ED, you will oversee all operations, functions, and activities of the society. You will take responsibility for giving the proper strategic direction and implementing a high-quality vision. You will be responsible for the creation of complete business plans for the attainment of goals and objectives set by the board of directors as well as ensuring adherence to the organization's daily activities an long term plans to establish policy and legal guidelines. You will forge and maintain relations of trust with shareholders, partners, external authorities, and supported individuals and their families.  

In addition to administrative management, as ED, you have responsibility for financial management including creating and maintaining an annual budget and overseeing and maintaining control of approved expenditures as well as reviewing manager’s financial reports to acquire understanding of the organization's financial and non financial position. You have responsibility for risk management and are responsible for safeguarding the organization against undue risk as well as devising remedial actions for any identified issues and conducting crisis management when necessary. Human resource management is also your responsibility. You will build an effective team of leaders by providing guidance and coaching to subordinate managers as well as supporting managers and team leaders in disciplinary decisions for any identified staff issues.

What Skills, Competencies and Experience Does the Executive Director Possess?

This is a busy, challenging and engaging opportunity for an experienced non-profit and community living leader who is committed to providing services to individuals with developmental disabilities. As the ideal candidate you have a demonstrated strong value base and the inherent belief that all people are of value and should be treated with dignity and respect. You are focused on providing support based on unique relationships and individual competencies rather than task focused care. You bring excellent presentation, public relations, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills as well as business and political acumen. You have a strong interest in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with Community Living BC, Community Care Licensing, Employment Standards, BC Housing, Work Safe BC and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities as well as internal staff teams, key community stakeholders, most especially family members and individuals supported. 

You will have a degree in Administration, Human Resources, Human Services, or a relevant program area. A Master’s degree is considered an asset.  You bring over five years of direct and progressive leadership experience in a non-profit or community social services organization with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based services to people with developmental disabilities and the related provincial and community support that is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will certainly be considered.
