The Board of Directors of Community Ventures Society is inviting applications for those interested in service on the Board of Directors. This position is an important and valued part of the organization’s leadership team, made up of community volunteers that bring different perspectives, knowledge, and skills to governing in terms of ethical, legal, financial, and mission driven oversight.

The Community Ventures Society (CVS) is a non-profit (for-benefit) society serving the Tri-Cities and beyond (Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey, Delta, Langley, Mission and Abbotsford). They provide Foster Families, Children's Respite, Life Skills, Community Inclusion, Specialized Children's Residential, Outreach, and Shared Living services to support people with developmental disabilities and their families. What Will the Director Undertake?

Members of the Board are responsible for the following:

·       Attendance at monthly meetings, Annual General Meeting, and special events;

·       Review, assess and improve the performance of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director and CVS as an organizational structure;

·       Adhere to the Constitution, Bylaws and Board Governance Policies;

·       Collaborate with the Executive Director to advance the interests of people and families served;

·       Be aware of the legal considerations, including liabilities, and seek legal advice when necessary to make sure that Community Ventures Society is following all laws and legal obligations;

·       Act with integrity, honesty, and in good faith in the best interests of Community Ventures Society and the people we serve;

·       Maintain and protect the confidentiality of information related to Board meetings, discussions, and documents; and

·       Interact with the public and community as a spokesperson of the Board.

What Skills, Competencies and Experience Does the Director Bring to the Role?

  • You are passionate about community inclusion and interested in supporting the mission and work of the organization;

  • You possess the ability to think thoughtfully and critically about strategic decisions concerning the organization;

  • You are willing to learn about and provide oversight on the financial wellbeing of the organization;

  • You possess the ability to connect and communicate with the individuals and families we serve in a respectful way;

  • You have a positive attitude and work well within professional teams; and

  • Per the Constitution, you are not an employee or family member of an employee of the organization and you do not work for Government of British Columbia in an area whose duties are concerned with society mandate.
