Intermediate Accountant ~ Closed
Established in the early 1980's, the Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council (NNTC) was given the responsibility to protect and advance the title and rights of the Nlaka'pamux Nation. Title and rights are our way of life, our ties to the land and our responsibility to protect for future generations.
Our team is seeking an Intermediate Accountant, for a full-time position. The role can be based in either Lytton, Kamloops, or the Lower Mainland with travel throughout the Nlaka’pamux homeland, as required. An interim home-based office will be required during the global pandemic.
Reporting to the Senior Finance and Accounting Manager, the main purpose of this role is to:
Oversee accounting processes, including general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll Provide financial, administrative and clerical services
Support payroll and oversee processing of timecards, expense claims, and corporate credit cards
Perform month-end reconciliations, including bank, general ledger, and related-party transactions
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
· Maintain client billing records, manage accounts receivable and collections as per client contracts and agreements
Set up projects in the accounting system, monitor and ensure accuracy of costs and revenues, including allocations of project revenues and expenditures
Develop and maintain purchase order systems to manage cost controls, purchasing, and to support accounts payable
Review maintenance reports, amortization schedules, capital asset inventory and modify schedules or plans as required
Assure all transactions and accounting activities follow generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Supports budget and forecasting activities, job costing and cash flow management
This rewarding opportunity will appeal to professionals with five or more years of work experience as an Accountant, preferably within a First Nations environment. You will have a Business Degree with a specialization in accounting (or equivalent skills and experience) plus a Professional accounting designation (CPA) or substantial completion in CPA designation requirements, or equivalent professional qualifications. A thorough depth of knowledge in financial accounting and complex management accounting structures is required. Knowledge of ASPE, IFRS, and PSAS financial reporting standards considered an asset, as is experience with project accounting processes, systems and implementation. You should also have strong communication skills, an ability to be organized and detailed and an exemplary level of integrity, work ethic, confidentiality and accountability.
