Occupational Health and Safety Manager

Established in the early 1980's, the Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council (NNTC) was given the responsibility to protect and advance the title and rights of the Nlaka'pamux Nation. Title and rights are our way of life, our ties to the land and our responsibility to protect for future generations.

Our team is seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Manager for a full-time position based in either Lytton or Kamloops with travel throughout the Nlaka’pamux homeland, as required.

The main purpose of this role is to:

  • Development, implementation, assessment, and review of a comprehensive OH&S management plan

  • Develop and implement a workplace wide competency and training program

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute health and safety plans according to legal guidelines

  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety

  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law

  • Develop training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention

  • Serve as Joint Health and Safety Committee member and coordinate the development and implementation of programs directed at supporting internal responsibility in the management of workplace safety

This rewarding opportunity will appeal to professionals with proven experience as a Safety Manager with a deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines. Experience working with Indigenous Communities is requested. College degree or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related topic would be a benefit but is not essential. Safety Certification e.g. CSO, CSS, NCSO, GSC, WHMIS, CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification are preferred. Working from various offices and work sites throughout the territory is required as is a valid driver’s licence.

Nlaka’pamux jurisdiction is re-asserted and our laws and policy govern work within our homeland, NNTC is staffed by both Nlaka’pamux and non-Nlaka’pamux.
