Our client, Rapid-Span Group of Companies, is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to assume a range of Human Resource responsibilities while working out of their Armstrong, BC office.
Who is Rapid Span?
Rapid-Span consists of a group of companies that specialize in the manufacture of steel, precast, and timber components for the transportation industry, and in particular bridges. With production plants spread throughout western Canada, we have been supplying bridge systems and components since 1983 and are recognized in the industry for providing quality products and reliable service.
Accustomed to successfully meeting the challenges of today’s construction market, Rapid-Span excels on design-build projects, tackling complex work, and providing products into increasingly remote locations and extreme conditions. Our bridge products are spread throughout North America. Armstrong BC, ‘The Heart of Country’ is nestled in the beautiful Spallumcheen Valley. It’s an agricultural hub between the Okanagan and the Shuswap regions. A peaceful and scenic community, Armstrong is friendly, full of charm, and has a bustling downtown core. With a population if about 5,500 people Armstrong holds small town charm coupled with numerous amenities, commercial offerings, and recreation options.
What Will the HR Generalist Undertake?
The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) is the sole Human Resource employee at Rapid-Span. The HRG will work on people-related tasks and activities in the organization. As the name suggests, the HRG supports the business from an HR perspective, managing relevant internal and external activities. In short, the HRG adopts a partnering model with management to support leaders with all their HR needs.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the HRG will perform a range of Human Resources-related duties that manage the employee lifecycle. The HRG wears multiple hats in a day while working with all levels of employees. One day, they could be working with top management, advising on employee engagement strategy. The next day, they could be onboarding new employees into the organization, depending on the business need. As such the role includes assisting with ensuring the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of the Rapid-Span Group of Companies’ Human Resources plans and programs. The HRG will be called upon to handle employee-related services such as employee relations, performance, and reward management, ensure regulatory compliance, undertake recruitment, engage in training & development, ensure HR administration is complete and with support from executive leadership, establish HR policy, practices, and planning.

As the ideal candidate, you have demonstrated competence in supporting leaders with all areas of human resources including culture development, employee relations, recruitment, and HR and benefits administration. You bring both strong person-centric and administrative skills – you don’t let any details slip through the cracks and people really love working with you! You have a proven track record of working in a generalist role within HR, preferably with three years’ experience. You possess an HR focused degree or diploma or an equivalent combination of experience and education. If you have a CPHR certification or are working toward that we’d be excited to hear it.
